Project We’ll Make

My First Crochet Top

Campers will work on a kid-friendly basic crochet tee. This project is a wonderful introduction to garment making because it uses familiar stitches while teaching new skills like fit, construction, and shaping.

The goal is for campers to learn how to approach a larger crochet project, understand how handmade garments come together, and build confidence with wearable crochet.

Projects may vary depending on size, pace, and comfort level. Some campers may finish during the main camp days, while others may use the bonus Study Hall session to complete final details.

Skills Covered

Campers will learn and practice:

  • Reading a crochet garment pattern
  • Understanding size and fit
  • Measuring for a top
  • Working in the round
  • Stitch counting
  • Double crochet practice
  • Simple shaping
  • Trying on as they go
  • Adjusting length and fit
  • Weaving in ends
  • Finishing a wearable project

Learning Style

This is a hands-on, small-group camp where each camper will receive support at their own pace.

Camp is taught by shop owner Sanjani, a Certified Crochet Instructor through the Craft Yarn Council. Her daughters will also assist as youth instructors, helping create a fun and welcoming environment for young makers.

Study Hall Session

A bonus Study Hall session will be held on August 4 from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM for campers who need extra time to catch up, ask questions, or finish their top.

Study Hall is included with camp tuition.

Snacks + Celebration

A nut-free snack, fruit, and water will be provided each day.

We’ll finish camp with a fun fashion show and pizza party so campers can celebrate their hard work and show off their finished crochet tops.

If your child has allergies, dietary restrictions, or strong snack preferences, please send them with their own snack and let us know at registration.
